AUTUMN ILLUMINATED FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Guests should expect a one-way walking experience outdoors including illuminated plants, paths, sculptures, and fountains. Enjoy the magic of a fall evening in New England, dry leaves underfoot, the moon above, autumnal lighting guiding the pathway. The experience will take place fully outdoors, but access to restroom facilities will be available. Visits usually last between thirty and forty-five minutes. The lighted route through the gardens will highlight fall colors and provide a special after dark stroll through the heart of Tower Hill. Our one-way route and timed ticketing is designed to provide a fun and safe way to enjoy natureVisitors are encouraged to wear festive costumes to celebrate the season. Guests will also be supporting our nonprofit organization’s goal to connect people and plants.

No. Those who have experienced our annual Night Lights show in years past probably remember being in awe over the shear brightness and size of the outdoor display. They might also reminisce about the festive, nature-themed decorations and activities indoors. Unfortunately, due to the pandemic, Night Lights 2020 was canceled.

Autumn Illuminated isn’t meant to replace Night Lights or match that winter experience’s scope. We want to offer visitors a chance to enjoy Tower Hill after dark. We want guests to have something fun to look forward to. We want participants to enjoy the magic of a fall evening in New England, dry leaves underfoot, the moon above, autumnal lighting guiding the pathway. We want festive folks to have a chance to don their favorite costumes. We want the greater Tower Hill community to have a chance to support our nonprofit organization as we recover from our COVID-19 closure in the spring. We hope visitors find the experience joyful, restorative, and serene. We hope it gives you the chance to reconnect with plants, nature, and loved ones.

Night Lights requires year-round preparation and a large up front investment in time and resources. Given the uncertainty surrounding the pandemic, THBG leadership decided the financial risk to hosting Night Lights was too high. While we’re extremely disappointed at having to cancel Night Lights, with your help Tower Hill is poised to thrive for generations to come.

Autumn Illuminated will be almost all outdoors. It will cover less ground, include fewer people, and be hands-off – all in order to ensure a safe experience for staff and visitors. (Tickets also cost less than Night Lights.) Because of the event’s more manageable scope, Tower Hill is better positioned to respond to potential changes in public safety restrictions on gatherings.

We urge guests to try not to compare Autumn Illuminated and Night Lights. They’re different and special in their own ways. And we hope both experiences will run as annual events in years to come.

Tower Hill is open for evening Autumn Illuminated visits Thursday through Sunday beginning at 6 p.m. The garden will close one hour after the last ticket time each evening at 10 p.m.Pre-purchased ticketsare required for evening admission. Tickets are not available at the gate.

Our ticketing system uses the email address that we have on file for your membership and your member number to verify your membership. Click here to find your member number and email address.

There are only member and non-member priced tickets available for this event.  General admission discounts are available for daytime visits.

No tickets will be available at the door. Tower Hill Botanic Garden is a nonprofit museum with limited parking, bathrooms, and facilities. We make available as many tickets as possible, so visitors are ensured a safe and joyful experience.

Visits usually last between thirty and forty-five minutes.

We hope to have some parts of our Mythical Creatures exhibit lit for Autumn Illuminated guests to enjoy during their visit.

No, the property will be closed from 5 p.m. to 6 p.m. This includes the gardens, gate, parking, grounds, and buildings. Daytime entry ends at 4:00 p.m. and entry after 6 p.m. requires a separate pre-purchased ticket. All daytime visitors must leave the property by 5 p.m.

Operators are happy to assist you by calling (866) 971-0969 Mondays to Fridays 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.  or by calling (508) 869-6111 Saturdays and Sundays 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.

In order for a timed reservation system to work as best as possible, please make sure you are able to attend your reserved slot at time of purchase.

Tickets are non-refundable and cannot be used for a different date or time. Our ticketing system, which is critical in controlling the flow of traffic and improving the visitor experience for hundreds of guests in a short time span, cannot process individual refunds or changing to a different time slot, much like tickets to a sports event or theater performance. If you cannot attend at the time for which you purchased your tickets, you have several options:

  1. You can give your tickets to another individual(s). Please note that member, child, youth, and senior tickets may only be redeemed for a single ticketed admission of equal or lesser value.
  1. You can choose to return your tickets to Tower Hill as a donation to our nonprofit, receiving a tax-deductible receipt in return. You must email the Advancement office by Nov 1, 2020 to apply for this option.
  1. You may use the difference between the price of a member and non-member ticket as a credit towards a membership when you apply for a membership by Nov 1, 2020. We can only apply a credit for the admissions that would have been covered by the membership. For example, a Non-Member Adult Ticket would be good for a $6 credit towards a membership. To take advantage of this offer, please call (508) 869-6111.

None of these options will result in cash or credit card refunds for unused ticket purchase price.

All ticket sales are final. Due to capacity limits, we cannot reschedule or refund tickets.

At this time, group size is limited to 10 people or less. It is recommended by the Massachusetts Department of Public Health that groups contain members of the same household.

Each timed reservation group should have more than enough time to see the lights and displays, however it is important to note that pathways will be set in a one-way direction, encouraging guests to move along while adhering to the social distancing recommendations set by the state and CDC.

Yes! All tickets are rain-or-shine, and we don’t offer refunds, rainchecks or rescheduling. We encourage you to dress accordingly.

Yes, some bathrooms will be available and also set with limited capacities and increased cleaning schedule.

Following recommendations from public health officials, masks or face coverings are required for all members and guests over the age of 2, who are able to wear them, at all times and in all parts of the property in order to provide a safe event for staff and visitors.

The time on your ticket is when you should plan to drive onto Tower Hill property. Visitor tickets will be checked from your car at the gate before you are directed to the parking lot. Please plan accordingly as Tower Hill cannot accommodate early arrivals or those waiting for the rest of their party to arrive. Those arriving more than 30 minutes late may forfeit entry.  No tickets will be available to purchase at the entry gate.

There are outdoor lighted gardens which are accessible in clear weather but may be challenging in rainy weather. Some pathways go through dimly lit areas where paths may be uneven. Jogging style strollers work best for our garden paths and trails. Because this is a rain and star shine experience, we advise caution when navigating potentially wet outdoor spaces. All visitors should wear sturdy footwear and be dressed for the elements.

For the safety and security of our guests, and the dogs who love to visit us, we do not allow dogs to visit Tower Hill during Autumn Illuminated (6pm onwards) from October 1, 2020 to November 1, 2020. Service dogs are always welcome.

The admissions process will be contactless. When you drive onto the property, please keep your car windows rolled up. You will be asked to show your tickets, either printed or on your phone, to our admission staff through your car window. All members of your party must arrive together in one car or you must distribute tickets before arriving at Tower Hill. We do not have a place for parties to gather outside the gate.
