Members of Tower Hill and the Worcester County Horticultural Society are invited to a presentation by the Board of Trustees, reviewing the Society’s business of the past year. Additionally, candidates for the Board will be elected and amendments to the bylaws will be voted on (see below). All are welcome, but only members can vote during the Business Meeting.
During this time, the Worcester Garden Club will be presented with the Worcester County Horticultural Society Silver Medal in celebration of their centennial anniversary.
Presentation by Don Rakow:
The Annual Meeting will feature a presentation by Dr. Don Rakow, Associate Professor of Horticulture at Cornell University. His lecture will focus on the role of public gardens in addressing urgent needs in their communities.
About Don Rakow: Dr. Donald A. Rakow is an associate professor in the Section of Horticulture, School of Integrative Plant Science at Cornell University. Dr. Rakow served as the Executive Director of Cornell Plantations (now Cornell Botanic Gardens) from 1996 – 2013. He is the co-author with Sharon Lee of ‘Public Garden Management’ (Wiley & Sons, 2011), and with Ms. Lee and Prof. Meghan Gough of the upcoming ‘Public Gardens and Community Revitalization’ (Cornell University Press, 2019). Dr. Rakow conducts research and writes on the human benefits of time in nature and directs the Nature Rx@Cornell program. He is also co-author of the upcoming text, ‘Nature Rx: Improving College Student Mental Health.’ He is a past recipient of both the Service Award and Award of Merit form the American Public Gardens Association. He and his wife have three grown sons and live in Ithaca, NY.
The presentation will be followed by a reception in the Great Hall.
