Tower Hill Botanic Garden offers a winter escape during February school vacation

Tower Hill Botanic Garden will be offering a series of fun, nature-inspired activities for children of all ages – and all those who are young at heart – during February school vacation. The programs, which coincide with Tower Hill’s signature event Winter In Bloom, span Feb. 18 to 26.

On each day from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. families can participate in scavenger hunts, visit the organization’s two large conservatories filled with subtropical plants, and much more. On the weekends, the flower shows bring spring-like colors and fragrances that offer a much-needed escape from winter. Crafts geared specifically toward children are available each day from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Story time happens from 11:30 a.m. to noon each weekday.

Programs for a fee that require registration include a Family Winter Tracking Walk on Feb. 18, a Family Snowshoe Walk on Feb. 19, Dino Plant Holders on Feb. 20, Teen Drawing in the Conservatories on Feb. 21, Nature Journal Making on Feb. 22, a Cocoa Class on Feb. 23, Flower Arranging for kids on Feb. 24, Science Sprouts on Feb. 25.

Families are also invited to create a flower arrangement that will be displayed in our galleries and our “Hall of Fame.” All submissions will be entered to win one of our many awards including Kids’ Choice Award, Most Creative, and Grand Prize. All participating families are invited to attend a reception before the awards ceremony at 10 a.m. on Saturday, Feb. 24.

If the weather is not too cold, visitors often enjoy winter hikes throughout Tower Hill’s sleeping gardens and woodland paths. Summit views of Mt. Wachusett and the original Stickwork sculpture the Wild Rumpus are just short walks from the indoor festivities. And if snow blankets the region, snow shoes and cross country skis are a welcomed way to see Tower Hill in its winter wonderland state.

Families can also enjoy the botanic library, Garden Shop, Twigs Cafe, and art exhibits.
