One of the most interesting aspects regarding Capital Campaign Phase IV development is the interrelationship of the new design elements with the existing features of Tower Hill. The display greenhouse or Limonaia, Morgan Reception Gateway, Winter Garden, and Container Court (in planning phase) support growing demands on Tower Hill's facilities. The Winter Garden, the dramatic outdoor landscape framed by the Education and Visitors Center, Limonaia and Orangerie, is the "showcase garden" of Tower Hill's Capital Campaign Phase IV. The Winter Garden is approximately 10,000 square feet and designed for viewing from the inside of the buildings looking out during the months of cold New England weather. Conversely, it is also a welcoming garden during the growing season, and extremely adaptable to accommodate a variety of social activities and special events. The beauty of the garden is equally derived from the quality of horticulture and fine architecture. The trees and shrubs have been chosen for the very best of winter characteristics, and the architecture includes a forty-foot pool designed on a plan of the 1st century Roman architect, Rabirius, along with classical sculpture. The pool is heated so as not to freeze, and the golden koi fish who will occupy it serve as colorful, flashing kinetic art during the gloomy winter. Visitors can view the Winter Garden from the comfort of the building; an indoor, 360 degree walk through beautifully planted galleries and greenhouses will provide the perfect vantage point to view the winter garden. It will be a spectacular experience! If you want to learn more about how to contribute to the Capital Campaign Phase IV project at Tower Hill, please e-mail Development Coordinator Marleen A.
