We want to have a taste of what’s been growing in your garden! Bake or make something sweet using the Fall harvest.
Sweet Harvest Contest Entry Rules 2017
Each submission must be labeled with the participant’s Name, Hometown, General Category, and include a Recipe.
Submissions must be checked in at Tower Hill on Friday, Sept. 29, 2017, between the hours of 11am and 5pm or on Saturday, Sept. 30, between 10am and 11:30am. Judging will occur at noon on Saturday, Sept. 30.
Submissions must be picked up between 3-5pm on Sunday, Oct. 1, or Tower Hill will dispose of them.
There are three General categories: Pies, Preserves, and Other Baked Goods.
If your submission is the only type of its kind in the competition, it will be judged against other submissions in its General category. If we receive multiple submissions for the same type, those will face off in their own category.
For example, your pie will compete against all other pie submissions, unless we receive several apple pie submissions, at which time we would start a Best Apple Pie category.
How many of each should you submit? Please enter one pie per entry, two jars per entry for preserves, and three per entry for small items like cookies and cupcakes.
Ribbons will be awarded for first, second, and third place. Winners of each individual category will receive a $5 gift certificate to the Garden Shop at Tower Hill, which will be mailed to them. Best in Show will receive $10
All entries must be double-bagged in a closed Ziploc-type plastic bag. Do not put a name on recipe cards. For cakes, we suggest a clear cake container. All articles must be made by the exhibitor with a recipe card attached. Put your name on the bottom of the plate – paper plates are acceptable. Exhibits will be cut and tasted by judges. Only one entry per category per exhibitor allowed. Awarding of prizes will be left to the discretion of the judges. Entries must not require refrigeration; no hazardous food ingredients (like cream cheese) that will spoil over the weekend are allowed.
Note: Participants don’t have to pay to drop off their submissions, but must pay admission to re-enter Tower Hill over the weekend.
